"Many people don't think they are loved, or held safe, and so when suffering comes they see it as an affirmation of their worthlessness. The challenge is to learn to live our brokenness under the blessing and not the curse." Henri Nowen
Our experiences in life have created a story from which we tend to live and operate in our daily lives. These experiences have also created a sacred belief system from which we operate. If you are finding it difficult to manage your personal growth or spiritual growth, it is likely that discovering how you perceive your story and belief system will be helpful. It's one thing to hear you are valuable, it's another thing to know it.
Healthy marriages and families do not evolve, they are created and maintained. Each member of your family system is responsible for its health. Often times I find family members playing various roles such as the "victim," or the "persecutor," or the "rescuer." In order for the family system to thrive the roles must be exposed and autonomy for each member must be achieved.
I believe every person who has ever lived has been on a quest for spiritual understanding. Each of us must balance the daunting questions about life, death, and the possibility of a Creator/God. Though we may choose to ignore our desire for understanding, I believe the questions remain. Spiritual growth is the most important area of our lives because all that we do comes as a result of our world-view. This is an area of counseling that I am especially good at.
