Paradigm

In Philemon V.6, Paul makes this (paraphrased) statement. "I pray that you will be active in sharing your faith so that you will know every good thing we have in Jesus Christ."

We spend much of our lives operating on theory (we are all philosophers). But we can move from theory to KNOWING and HAVING and BEING, which is much different. In the Philemon passage this means we will literally KNOW or HAVE something more concrete, more real, as a result of acting out or living out our subjective faith, than we will if we just think about it or listen to others talk about it.

Much of life is the same. We can say we love someone but the powerful blessing we can HAVE for activley loving someone is much different. Our greatest needs are to be valuable (to someone), acceptable (to someone), and needed (by someone). The shorter word for these is we need to be LOVED.

What we have always been told is that we HAVE love in Jesus Christ. What Paul is saying is that to KNOW this in a deep and satisfying way, you must be ACTIVE in LOVING others. Check your self with the "Theory VS Experience meter this week. Love someone ACTIVELY.

My Approach

My approach to counseling is that all people are searching for understanding and meaning as it relates to their purpose and identity in life. My mission is to join with you and facilitate change by helping you uncover and identify your areas of need. I believe that the desire, ability, and motivation for change resides within you and it is my position to help guide you on a path that will help you realize your full potential.

I believe it is a tremendous accomplishment to become fully present in the midst of life's various challenges. Often times, painful relationships cause us to deviate from our full potential. To be truly healthy and free, I believe that one must come to a place of being fully known to self and able to function in a flexible manner within a wide diversity of relationships.

My training:

I have a bachelor's degree in Biblical Theology from Multnomah Bible College and Biblical Seminary, and I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from George Fox University.

My experience:

I have primarily worked with couples, families, and teens. I work particularly well with people struggling in relationships and I have experience working with persons struggling with self-harm. I work with sexual addictions, adjudicated youth, and persons suffering from depression.  I also offer Spiritual guidance to those seeking a closer relationship to God or understanding of their spiritual journey.

My Promise:

You will be exposed to a therapeutic relationship that will provide you with the tools needed to become whole. You will be challenged to consider your value as sacred, and you will be given the respect and dignity you deserve.

The Search

"The Spiritual life is a life in which we wait, actively present to the moment, trusting that new things will happen to us, new things that are far beyond our own imagination, fantasy, or prediction." (Author unknown)

If relational pain has crippled your ability to pursue an understanding of God, you can be confident in my ability to help you uncover a hope that has been waiting for many years. The time for believing is now. Your trials have not been forsaken.
